Cary Psychiatry - Amie Sharrits, MD

In addition to individual therapy, I also provide:

  • Diagnostic consultations to assist mental health providers or physicians with making a diagnosis and determining the need for medications or therapy
  • Medication management
  • My contact number is (919) 632-8626

My approach is to understand and treat the entire person. People usually enter treatment for unhappiness, nervousness, difficulty with decisions, dissatisfaction at work or in relationships and unmet goals. You can expect an initial evaluation to last an hour or more.

Trained as a physician, I apply “do no harm” to all of my treatment recommendations. This means I judiciously prescribe medications when clearly indicated, following a collaborative discussion of the risks and benefits.

My training as a therapist helps me to explore the unique meaning of a person's difficulties and determine the most beneficial treatment plan. Usually I am the therapist for my patients, but I am willing to provide consultation to persons who already have a therapist.

After graduating from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, I completed my residency training in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in General Psychiatry and subspecialty certified in Psychosomatic Medicine, I supervise residents in psychotherapy as an adjunct clinical instructor at UNC and provide consultation at Rex Hospital.
